White Rock Arrests

White Rock Sun online:

-- Vancouver Media Coop

A group of 40-50 protesters gathered in the early morning hours Saturday at the entrance to the White Rock pier. The protesters vowed to stop any coal trains heading through White Rock to the Roberts Bank superport.

Things were quiet and cordial all day with the protesters and RCMP developing a mutual respect with open dialogue.

That non-reactionary mood prevailed even as BNSF decided to test the waters and bring a coal train at 6 p.m.

The protesters negotiated with the rail line and the BNSF that they would stop the train and be arrested. Which was the case. The train was stopped east of the pier, the protestors willing to be arrested moved on to the tracks and were arrested. Later all paid a $115.00 fine.
